Privacy notice

How this website handles your personal information.

Draft for review. This notice describes how the website is currently built. It is awaiting review and approval by LAWODA and may change. Last updated: .

Who we are

This website is operated by Laikipia Women Development Association (LAWODA), a community-based organisation based on the Nairobi–Nanyuki Railway Line, Nanyuki, Laikipia County, Kenya. You can contact us about privacy at lawodacbo@yahoo.com or on +254 115 339625.

Information you give us

If you use our contact or inquiry form, we collect the information you choose to provide:

  • your name;
  • your email address and/or phone number;
  • your organisation (optional);
  • the type of inquiry and your message; and
  • your confirmation that we may use these details to respond.

Please do not send sensitive information — for example about health, finances or personal safety — through the website form. If you need to share something sensitive, contact us and we will agree a safer way.

How we use it

We use the information only to read and respond to your inquiry, and to keep a record of our correspondence with you. We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or add you to a mailing list.

Form submissions are sent by our web server to LAWODA’s email inbox. This means your message is processed by our website hosting provider and our email provider in order to deliver it.

Spam and abuse protection

To protect the form from automated spam, our server checks a hidden field and the time taken to complete the form. To prevent repeated submissions, it also stores a one-way, scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address for up to one hour. This cannot readily be turned back into your IP address and is deleted automatically.

Cookies, analytics and tracking

This website does not set cookies, does not use analytics tools, and does not include advertising or social-media tracking code. We link to our Facebook page rather than embedding it, so Facebook code is not loaded on our pages.

Third-party services

  • Google Fonts. Our pages load typefaces from Google’s servers. When your browser requests them, Google receives your IP address and basic browser information. See Google’s privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
  • OpenStreetMap. The map on our contact page loads from OpenStreetMap only if you choose “Show map”. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
  • Hosting provider. Like all web servers, our host may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, pages requested and time of visit) for security and reliability.
  • External links. Links to other websites, including Facebook, open sites that have their own privacy policies.

How long we keep it

We keep inquiry messages for as long as we need them to respond and follow up, and for no longer than 24 months unless we have an ongoing working relationship with you or are required by law to keep them longer.

Your rights

Under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to be informed about how your personal data is used, to access it, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to object to its use. To make a request, contact us using the details above.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (opens in a new tab).

Children

This website’s contact form is intended for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent, guardian or teacher to contact us on your behalf.

Changes to this notice

We will update this notice if the way the website handles personal information changes — for example if we add analytics or a newsletter. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
